John joined Boyer and Sappenfield Investment Advisors in 2012.

He holds FINRA Securities Licenses: 7 and 66, as well as State Life, Health, and Variable Insurance Licenses. John earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional designation from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc in April of 2019 . 

In 2016, Boyer and Sappenfield Investment Advisors changed broker dealers to Cambridge Investment Research to better serve customers. Cambridge Investment Research offers a broad range of choices, which allows John to find the solution that is believed to be the best for each individual client's situation.

A lifelong Illinois resident, John is a proud alumnus of Lake Land Community College in Mattoon and Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. He majored in finance and graduated early after earning his Bachelor’s of Science degree in 2010. Knowing student loan debt is a burden for many, John worked hard to complete his degree requirements quickly and graduate with as little debt as possible. With careful budgeting and planning, he was able to completely pay off his student loans within one year of graduation.

John and his wife currently reside in Tuscola with their daughter. He purchased his home in 2014 with a conventional home loan and 20% down payment. While he does not advocate for the use debt on all things, he believes in having a financial plan in place before entering into a debt obligation. The benefits of homeownership outweighed the risk in his case, and they’ve enjoyed working on their home and life together.

In his free time, John enjoys woodworking and making personalized gifts for his family and friends.

Cole O’Rourke joined the team in October of 2021. Cole has a background in marketing and has quickly gained knowledge in our industry, earning the Financial Paraplanner Qualified Professional designation, allowing him to better assist.

Cole's duties as a member of the Boyer and Sappenfield team include: Data entry, filling out forms, preparation of and assistance with financial plan documents, telecommunication, servicing client accounts by tracking transactions and servicing accounts with confidentiality, and marketing.  

In September 2022, Cole attained the Financial Paraplanner Qualified Professional designation. 

PERSONAL: 


Cole graduated from Arcola High School, and attended Parkland Community College in Champaign, Illinois as well as Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. Cole graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Marketing from Eastern Illinois University in Spring 2016. 

Cole currently lives in Tuscola, Illinois with his wife; Hannah and their dog; Ruthie. He enjoys watching sports in his spare time. Sports Teams followed include the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago White Sox, and Chicago Bulls.

I have been lucky enough to learn and grow in this business as part of the Boyer and Sappenfield Investment Advisor office in Arcola Illinois.

I continue my role in this office daily at 102 E Main Street in Arcola Illinois 61910.

While you will work directly with me on all planning and investment matters, you will likely be contact with other members of this team through out time. 

I have learned in my years in this business you are only as good as the support system that you have, and in my opinion I have a great support system between the administrative staff and the other advisors in the office.



Why did I become a Financial Advisor?

From a young age, I have always found enjoyment in being able to help someone. Whether that was assisting a neighbor in around their home or helping a classmate understand our studies better. From an early age, my parents instilled within me a value of money and saving toward goals.


As I thought about what I wanted to do with my life, I kept coming back around to help those around me as a general theme for my life. In high school, I took my first accounting class that propelled me into the world of business for college. A professor at Eastern Illinois University helped me realize that Financial Planning was the area that my skillset fit into and would allow me to help more individuals and families. The conversation happened in 2009, and I have never looked back. 


Providing financial planning combines the aspects of my life that I loved from a young age, helping those around me, teaching the value of money, and setting achievable goals. I wake up every day, enjoying the work involved with providing Financial Advice to complicated financial situations in an effort to make a positive impact on those around me.





The process starts with a fit meeting to determine if you and I would would well together. This fit meeting is at no charge and is done in-person or virtually via zoom. 


How do I provide Financial Advice?

Throughout our relationship, we work together to build a Financial Plan to help you take control of your Financial Narrative. What you receive is limited to our engagement scope, whether it is a single matter like budgeting or a holistic approach that encompasses your entire Financial Narrative.


I have worked hard throughout my life to build knowledge in the Financial field. I can promise you two things: One: I do not have all the answers but will do my best to get you an answer. Two: Your account balances will fluctuate over time - investing for the long term is not a straight line.

First: Assets Under Management model - In this model, the majority or all of investment accounts are held through my management. Your assets pay for the majority of the advice given. A Subscription based charge is applicable for relationships with less than $250,000 held through my management if you choose to have more than investment management services

Second:  Advice as a Subscription model- In this model, all investment accounts are held outside of our relationship and you are billed monthly for the advice given. This area is great for a Do-It-Yourself individual or family that just wants to ask a few questions now and again but wants to retain as much control over their journey as possible.
